Some couples find a fancy venue, hire a planner, and coordinate a dozen color swatches. Melanie and Austin? They kept it real—and perfect. They reached out to us with the sweetest plan: an intimate wedding ceremony followed by a backyard reception at her parents’ house (which happened to be down the street from our house… small world!). No stress, no over-the-top stuff—just a day full of love, laughter, and the people who matter most.
As St. Louis wedding photographers, we’ve seen a little bit of everything—lavish hotel ballrooms, rustic barns, mountaintop elopements—but we’ve got a soft spot for backyard weddings. There’s something about the twinkle lights strung up the night before, the sound of kids running barefoot through the grass, and the fact that someone’s aunt will be in charge of the potato salad.
Melanie and Austin’s day had it all: local desserts, neighbors swinging by with hugs and “I remember when you were this tall!” stories, and so many moments of pure, candid joy. It was relaxed, joyful, heartfelt, and just downright lovely.
No big production. No perfectly choreographed grand entrances. Just two people deeply in love, celebrating with their favorite humans in a backyard full of charm (and snacks). Melanie and Austin, thank you for letting us be part of your day—it was full of the kind of love you can’t fake, and we’re so lucky we got to capture it.
