Couples Session Guide
About Your Session
Engagement sessions are all about connection. They’re a relaxed, fun way to get to know us as your photographers and learn how we guide you in front of the camera.
This time is meant to celebrate your relationship, your story, and the season you’re in right now. We focus on capturing your unique connection so your photos feel real, joyful, and full of life.
More Than Posing
We want your engagement session to feel like a fun date! We’ll give you tips along the way, but mostly, we’ll document the natural way you interact. Laugh, explore, hold hands, grab a coffee—just be yourselves and let us capture your story as it unfolds.
Not every couple loves being overly intimate in public, and that’s totally okay! Whether you're more into romantic stolen moments or a playful best-friend vibe, we’ll tailor the session to what feels most natural to you. This is great practice for the wedding, so when that day arrives, you’ll feel totally comfortable in front of the camera.
Scheduling
Your Session
How Long is a Session?
Most engagement sessions last about one hour, but let’s be honest—we usually get so caught up having fun with you that we lose track of time. Ha!
Two hours before sunset is an ideal time, but we are more than happy to shoot any time of day - we love evenings and they can be so magical.
Setting The Date
We know you’re juggling wedding planning and loving on your favorite person, so finding time for a session can feel tricky. But don’t worry — we’re happy to make it work. Weekday or weekend, we’ll do our best to find a spot on the calendar that fits your schedule and ours.
The timing of your engagement session also depends on what you’d like to do with the photos.:
For Save the Dates – Schedule at least 5 months before your wedding to allow for a 2-3 week edit turnaround and time to mail them.
For Invitations – Plan for 4-5 months in advance to give yourself plenty of time.
For Fun & Social Media – No rush! We’ll capture your love whenever it feels right.
The Location
The Environment
Your engagement photoshoot should reflect who you are as a couple. Think beyond just a pretty backdrop—pick a place that means something to you!
Foodies? Let’s hit up your favorite café or an outdoor market.
Book lovers? A cozy bookstore or library could be perfect.
Nature lovers? A scenic park or hiking trail might be just the thing.
Homebodies? Your neighborhood can work perfectly.
Want something unique? Let’s plan an activity—think ice cream dates, record store browsing, rooftop views, or even roller skating!
Your location sets the tone, so think about colors and styles that work beautifully with it. And if your pets are part of what makes your relationship special, bring them along — they help tell your story in an authentic, fun way.
Sometimes the best photo locations are the most unexpected. These ideas are just a starting point to get you thinking — your session doesn’t need to be deep or overly conceptual, but it does help if you genuinely love the place we choose.
Just keep in mind that some places require permits (we’ve had our fair share of run-ins with grumpy security guards), so it’s good for us to check ahead.

What To Wear
What’s In Your Wardrobe?
Your outfits should feel like you, just like your location does. Think of your engagement session as the warm-up before the wedding — the fun, casual version where you get to show off your everyday vibe instead of wedding-day fancy. But if you always wear fancy and absolutely love it, then wear what makes you feel awesome. Truly. We’re down for whatever you choose.
A quick PSA: steer clear of baggy button-downs, visible straps/tags, or anything that gets see-through when the sun hits it.
The Key To Looking Great!
Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident!
✔ Solid colors look fantastic on camera—earth tones, neutrals, or pops of color like red or navy.
✔ Consider your setting—what colors complement the location?
✔ Think timeless—avoid busy patterns, logos, or anything overly trendy that might get outdated.
✔ Layers and textures add depth to your photos.
✔ Bonus Tip: Bring comfy shoes! We might walk a bit to find the best spot, so have a backup pair.
It’s all about you!
Think of this guide as your little jump-start — a handful of tips to help you feel prepped, excited, and totally ready to rock your session.
Your engagement photos are all about celebrating your love, so don’t overthink it. Leave the bags, phones, and extras behind-we can carry anything essential for you!
But don’t treat this guide like a rulebook (because it’s not). It’s just us pointing you in the right direction so you can show up feeling like your best selves.
At the end of the day, this is your session — your story. Make it personal. Make it you. And most importantly… have a blast with it.
We promise, by the end, you’ll walk away saying, “That was so much fun!”
